You need to metals that are higher protection (over metal) in the electrochemical series to be used. The problem is that aluminum is in the upper and especially metals, which are very reactive.
The series K, Na, Ca, Mg, Al, Mn, Zn, Fe, Ni, Sn, Cu, Hg, Ag, Au, some metals Comon. Thus, zinc is used to protect the propeller from copper and accessory parts, as most of the series. In the example of magnesium, the theory of an option than other metals could react easily with water. In practice, with a thin aluminum layer is protected by alum. Oxide forms which are spontaneously painted in the air, and aluminum boats.

You may Mg, can not use them, iron or calcium. Iron is less reactive, and are encouraged to corrode the Al and Ca to react, and the bubble!
